Even though this tragedy is over, the people who work in the mines know very well that each day they drive up the mountain to the mines, the chances of a accident are possible. This picture shows me standing next to James by a Cat 5230 front shovel. An accident on these monster machines is very dangerous. James has a son graduating from High School this year and starting college in the fall to be a diesel mechanic. James and his wife Val are very worried he will end up working in the mines . James is the night foreman in charge of keeping over 140 monster Cat machines running in several mines. James knows first hand how dangerous this envirement is.
Mon. morning John will go back to work too in his shovel digging away at the mountain 12 hours a day . But now at the other end of the pit , there will be a different shovel and a new operator running the shovel and a new operator running the dozer next to it. The coal miners are a very close knit group , they are just like family. They will all stick together and get through this sad week.
We are the lucky ones that God has given us one more day . Hope you all enjoy today even more with the ones you love.
