Gaylord Herald Times shows Don Campbell’s toy train

don train paper, originally uploaded by Don Campbell Models.

Gaylord Herald Times- Last week I was in my John Deere blowing snow and a writer from the Gaylord Herald Times stopped and took my picture for the paper. After taking the picture he stopped and told me what he was doing and was going to put my picture in the paper blowing snow. I asked him if he had a couple minutes and I showed him my toy train in my workshop. A few days ago we saw my picture of me blowing snow in my John Deere .
Today in the local paper they put this picture of me next to the train with a short write up.
It has been 10 years since I had one of my toys in the local paper.
It was fun seeing one of my projects in the paper again. Very few people in town know about my toy hobby, they know I did landscaping and lawn care and snowplowing and was a meat-cutter. But very few of them know about my toy hobby.
They will still not know after this paper because this next generation doesn’t read the newspaper. They are too busy texting and e-mailing , ha,ha.
Chessie GP-40 Train Progress- Today I should get the third wheel truck assembly roughed in and get going on the last one .
Once the four outside assemblies are roughed in I will set them aside and start working on the right side of the body. The right side is just bare frame so there is still a lot of work involved there yet. After the right side is roughed in I will move to the cab interior. I need more pictures of the inside of a gp-40 cab before I can get started on that.
The last thing I will do is pull the cab section, the rear section and the center section off to start building the axles and truck assemblies that will attach to the main frame. That will be a big project too. After that is done I will design a fifteen foot long section of track with railroad ties to display the engine on. So there is a lot of work yet to go before painting begins probably the first week in Feb. but it has been a fun project.
Cat D-11R Dozer- Mid Feb. I should be cutting out the first parts for the most exciting model I have ever built. I have always loved big dozers and big loaders so I am so excited to build a model of a Cat D-11R dozer that will stand five feet tall. I now have the designs ready to go on that project.
Gaylord Snowmobile Conditions- Not Good , 2 more inches of powder last night still leaves the trails in Gaylord very thin and rough . Mancelona has received about two feet of snow and should be great snowmobiling there.
ALPINE CHOCOLAT HAUS- Our friend Bruce Brown will be opening his third candy store tomorrow at the Soo . Very exciting for him !! Bruce is originally from the Soo where he grew up where he said he spent a lot of time at the Hockey Rink and a lot of time at the bars, ha,ha. But these days he spends all his time making candy , ha,ha.
Have a great Wed.
