Great Lakes Coal Hauler Ship and Don Campbell from Gaylord who spent a week on the real one.

Top Ten – We all have a top ten list of things in our whole life we did that was so !, so! so ! memorable ! One of the top ten exciting things for me was definately a week cruise on the largest coal hauling ship on the Great Lakes . The Paul R. Tregurtha. We stayed in the whole floor reserved for the Captain and the owner . We had a chef to cook our meals and a porter to clean our rooms. Fresh baked goods twice a day and great meals in the dining hall. Sitting in the Bridge for hours watching the breathtaking view from above as the longest Frieghter manuvered flawlessly through the rivers and lakes. We also got to know the Captain in that short time and had a few good laughs with him and many of the crew members. A visit to the engine room was awesome and the Chief Engineer to my surprise had heard of me and his neighbor had four of my models . So we hit it off too and a year later he stopped at our house for a visit and a Interlake Steamship hat for me.
That trip is what prompted me to attempt to build my first ever model ship. I got it over half done and then got another model started and never got back to this one. Well, today I went out in the back shed and hauled it into the workshop and I am determined to finish it. So in the next two weeks this old Great Lakes Ship model will finally see completion and I will be a boatnerd again, ha,ha.
You can see the metal has weathered a little bit so it will have to be sanded and cleaned up.
It makes me think about the Pixall Sweet Corn Harvester I began building over 12 years ago and it never got finished either. And I doubt it ever will as I now love the larger scale models so much.

Have a great summer.
