Soo Locks now open for the 2010 Shipping Seasons, Boatnerds are happy .

Soo Locks Boat Nerds – Most of you know I consider myself a bit of a boatnerd as I have always enjoyed camping up near the Soo Locks a few times each summer and watch the Great Lake Freighters pass by upbound and downbound. It always brings back fun memories of our week long trip on the Paul R. Tregurtha, the largest ship on the Great Lakes. Our friend Bruce invited us to go with him as his cousin owns the Interlake Steamship Co.
Todays picture also reminds Deb and I of our several trips on the Ice Breaker Mackinaw as Nicole dated the Captains son we had the rare opportunity to break ice a few times.
It was just yesterday the Soo Locks opened officially for the 2010 Great Lakes Shipping Season. Deb and I drove up to the locks a few times over the years and stayed overnight just to see the first several ships pass by on opening day. I guess doing that confirms I am really a boatnerd, ha,ha.
P&H 5700 Cable Shovel Progress- Today I went and picked up another 75 feet of steel tubing for more of the main structure framing. But today i continued to design more parts for the bucket. I now have about 80 parts cut out but it just still looks like a pile of metal yet. It will be a couple weeks yet before anything really starts to come together.
Gaylord Snow- We just have one small area left in our front lawn of snow and one strip out back next to the shed in the shade about 30 feet long .
Have a great Monday !!!!!!!
