Yesterday I posted a picture of a Paydozer D-500 that Mike sent me for a future toy model project. Last night I got this picture from Greg in a e-mail of a real one at work pushing three 637 Cat Scrapers through the sand near Shelby and Hart Michigan . Greg said that the picture was taken in the mid 70’s. I thought the picture was cool , but what makes it even cooler yet, is 32 years ago Deb and I traveled past this Freeway construction site every weekend on our way to the Silver Lake Sand Dunes with our dunebuggy. I’m sure at least once we must have seen them and driven right by these machines. If Deb would have looked at me and said, see those machines?, well, in about 32 years you are going to be making toys and will be making a toy D-500 Paydozer just like that one?. And someone is going to send you pictures of it , ;well, I probably wouldn’t have believed her. In fact, if she had told me we would still be married 32 years later, I wouldn’t have believed that either, LOL. just kidding. Thanks Greg for the pics.
They brought back some fun memories for Deb and I traveling through western Michigan to the sanddunes.
SNOWFALL – We keep hearing on the weather channel about Oswego,N.Y. getting 10 or 12 feet of snow. But the pictures show the bottoms of the windows in the houses not even covered. You can see some 10 to 12 foot drifts, but no way is there 10 to 12 feet of snow on the level. You would not see anything but rooftops , you would see no houses at all in 12 feet of snow. And where would you plow it , The only way to move it would be with huge snowblowers. A few years ago the weatherman said the Soo Locks got 7 feet of snow in one week. We were amazed, and Tom and I decided to take a day off and drive up and take some measurements in open level areas. We were excited to see 7 feet of snow in one week. When we arrived, we saw they had recieved quite a bit of snow , but it was obvious the weatherman did not visit the town as we did. Yes, we did see some 7 foot drifts on the corner of some of the houses and we did see piles of snow 10 feet high from big loaders stacking it, but no-where on the level was there more than 36″ of snow. Three feet is a long ways from 7 feet. So I ‘m thinking this is the same guy at the weather station talking about Oswego, N.Y, ha,ha. If you watch the clips and look carefully , you can see there is no where near 10 to 12 feet of snow on the level. Tom and I were tempted to drive out to N.Y. , ha,ha.
