1/3rd Scale Towhaul Model by Don Campbell

Cat Towhaul – As you know in the end of Feb. I will begin the 1/3rd scale Cat D-11R Dozer model. I have been thinking about building a lowboy tractor trailer rig too . I would like to be able to load the D-11 Dozer or the five foot tall Cat 994F loader model on the lowboy truck model. So to make this realistic at all the lowboy rig I will have to build will be a Towhaul lowboy similar to todays picture.
There is no doubt the train model and these three models will probably be what I will someday be remembered for. As I get older I want to see these model projects get built after waiting for many years. I would like the towhaul to be motorized and RC equipped.
A realistic time frame would be to build the D-11R Dozer and the 994F Loader in 2011 and build the towhaul in 2012. I know some toy people think it’s a little crazy building static models so large but this is my dream . I often get asked why I don’t put working engines and RC my large models . Most people don’t realize it would cost upward of $10,000.00 to $20,000.00 to rc each model.
I knew after spending a afternoon with Fred Heim looking at his awesome models and sitting inside his 1/2 scale Pete truck these are projects I just have to put first on my list for this year and next year. (:>) The dozer and loader will be static models but the towhaul will have a diesel engine and be controlled with RC parts.
After building toys now for 14 years I have never been more excited to head out to the shop to work on the Chessie GP-40 and to start on the other cool machines.
What a great year of toy building 2011 is going to be !! I feel so lucky to have such a great hobby.
Happy New Year !!!!!!!!!!!!!
