I think I was one of the last people in Michigan to get a checking account , I never liked checks.
So the day finally came when we had to open a checking account to reserve motels .
Deb went and opened our first account and the bank gave us temporary checks to use until our real checks arrived a couple weeks later.
So just for fun we went out and bought a few little items to get used to using the checks. To our surprise , all of the checks bounced. I was pretty upset and told Deb to forget about having checks, as they were just stupid. I had never had credit problems before. So she told the bank to close our checking account before we even wrote a single check.
Well, after a few months, we decided to try it again and this time we waited to get our real checks and that has been 35 years ago and we have never written another rubber check since.
Our Credit card problems- I think I was the last one to also get a credit card. But we did go out and get one and the first week we had it , we were going to Cedar Point to the Amusement Park. We also visited the mall and we went to Toys-R-Us.
We decided to try the credit card for the first time. We bought about $200.00 worth of stuff and after waiting in a long line , it was our turn at the checkout . Deb handed the lady the credit card and she ran it through her machine. Guess What?, it came back bad!!. That’s Right !, we had no credit!! Our credit was 0.
After asking the lady to try again three times, she continued to tell us we had no credit in front of a lot of people waiting in line. Dare say!!, I was a little upset , actually I was a lot upset as I asked her if I could borrow her pair of scissors. She asked why?, and before I could answer her, I was using her scissors to cut up our first ever credit card.
I pulled out the cash out of my billfold and paid for our stuff and off we went.
EATING FREE EVERY SAT.- These days we like credit cards, because we have always paid them off every month and taken advantage of the 1% to 6% cash back policy some of them offer. The last several years we take the money we get from them and set it aside for our Sat. eating out money. It lasts a whole year and it is great fun knowing we eat free plus give a free tip compliments of the credit card people. We still have little problems once in a while with them, but because they give us several hundred dollars every year free, I never ask for the scissors anymore, ha,ha.
