If you follow my YouTube channel (you can view it and subscribe for updates at https://www.youtube.com/doncampbellmaker) you probably see that my current project is a 1959 CAT D-9 Dozer with a cable blade lift. Today I began building the engine hood but there was a lot of other building that happened before today. The videos below go through each day to show you the progress.
Building the Tracks (Nov 29th)
This video is a compilation of how I build my tracks, including the trackpads, grousers, and how I attach everything to the roller chain and sprockets. I show the building of front pulleys and track tension parts, and add the rear sprocket and tightening tracks. After that, I show that the next step is the rear axle and lining up the track assemblies.
Lower Frame Progress and Other Upcoming Projects (Nov 30th)
Lower rough frame was then bent up. I then built the floor in the fenders. The rear fuel tank was then bent and welded next with a removable fuel cap.
Making Shift Levers (Dec 1st)
In this video, I show the foot pedals and shift levers, and how I make them.
Start of Cockpit Construction (Dec 2nd)
The dash, cowl and steering levers show the beginning of the top coming together. This model has a roof which 51 separate pieces. The next steps will be the front grill and frame. The videos and photos below show my progress so far.
CAT D-9 Roof Construction (Dec 3rd)
Here I talk about the construction of the roof and how I make it. Also talking a bit about the rear frame plate with the brackets and inspection plate, where the hitch will go.
Roughed In Engine Hood and Process (Dec 4th)
Latest Progress is showing the hood roughed in and getting smoothed out and how it’s going to look once that is on.
The engine hood is where I am at now. Still a lot to do yet but I am very pleased with the progress so far. Next I will go to the rear frame and build a rear hitch and winch.

Have a great Saturday and thank you for supporting and encouraging my hobby!
