Every few years I go in a different direction in my model building. The first 5 years it was farm toys. I began by building small antique horse drawn farm toys. Then I built tillage equipment and moved to harvesters and tractors, pivots, augers and grain dryers. Then my love for construction equipment turned me to building dozers, excavators, earthmovers, wheel loaders, and dump trucks.

That kept me busy several more years until one day I decided to shift-gears again and build my first mining machine model. These were much larger in size and a couple stood 10 to 13 feet tall. I loved building the large models the most because they almost seem real. I enjoyed building every steel piece by hand. However, the love of my childhood days on the farm eventually brought me back to a different type of project, one I could drive.

I began by buying old riding mowers and stripping them down. Then I would build little tractors that reminded me of those ones I drove on the farm. Today, I have 12 little custom tractors that I built. I still enjoy seeing and driving them in the yard. Recently, I added a flat fender Willys Jeep that I made and a Rat Rod Scooter.

That brings me to the present. My grandson sent me sketches of his ideas for a Battlebot model. This was our first real project together. He even knew the exact colors of the different parts he wanted. The bot was very fun to build. I would enjoy building one of a kind Battlebots in ¼ or ½ scale. I plan on posting a full post on the process of building the Battlebot.
